Glencoe is just 15 minutes away by car. This stunning, brooding glen is dramatic, atmospheric and scenic. The light is constantly changing and you could take photographs forever.
Glencoe is the site of the legendary massacre of Glencoe when in 1692 the Macdonalds were massacred by Campbells. Nowadays the locals are much friendlier and the Glen is an attraction to hillwalkers, hikers, nature lovers and movie makers. Highlander, Rob Roy, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Braveheart, Skyfall and Harry Potter were all filmed in part nearby.
Some of the highlights of Glencoe include the stunning Buachaille Etive Mor standing at the entrance to the Glen, Bidean nam Bian, the Three Sisters, and the Hidden Valley. Nearby is the Glencoe Mountain Resort with skiing and summer outdoor activities including a downhill mountain bike track. You can check out the outdoor weather at the Mountain Weather Information Service.
If you don't fancy hillwalking, there are low level walks through the Glen and exploring the lochans at the mouth of the Glen. See the whole list of walks on the Walk Highlands website.
