THE Bridge of Orchy with the hotel in the background.
Bridge of Orchy is a small village and yet is central for many outdoor activities from walking to cycling on paths and hills to water sports on the River Orchy. The River Orchy ranges from tranquil to challenging and is one of the finest white water rivers in the UK. The Grade 3 to 5 river Orchy is an exciting white water experience.
For those looking for a quieter day out, the River Orchy provides excellent fishing opportunities as it flows from Loch Tulla down to Loch Awe. There are fast moving sections and gravel pools bringing fishing folk to the area from around May to October.
If you prefer your water even bigger then head for a day's sightseeing around Oban and the stunning coast. You can take a ferry across to Mull or further to the outer Hebrides. A train journey (steam or not) to Mallaig is a great way to get to the Isle of Skye ferry, or drive further north to take the impressive Skye bridge. You may want to visit Fort William and continue on up past Loch Ness to Inverness. There are lots of things to do in the Highlands.
You will be impressed with the dark skies we have in Bridge of Orchy. A few minutes outside at night, to let your eyes adjust, will reap stunning rewards with millions of stars overhead.
Take a torch and wander a few minutes downhill from the cottage and visit the Bridge of Orchy Hotel for some local cuisine and a fine selection of malt whiskies. We love Taransay Cottage and hope that you too will appreciate the location, the wildlife, the hills, the river, the walks and the way of life.
